Serbian Red Cross appeals for aid March 31, 1999
The Red Cross urged all Yugoslav nationals abroad, humanitarian organizations and people of good will who have been expressing their solidarity since the outset of the aggression to provide any aid they can at this most difficult time. The targets of senseless NATO assaults are the capital city, all major towns, residential areas, refugee camps, industries, medical facilities, schools, nurseries, Orthodox churches, cultural monuments, civilian airports and even the Kosovo-Metohija provincial Red Cross headquarters, the Red Cross said. The number of killed and injured grows daily, and there is mass exodus of the population from areas that have suffered the worst hits. In the downpour of cruise missiles, cluster bombs and other banned devices, the 11 million Yugoslav citizens and 750,000 refugees are subjected to unprecedented genocide at the end of the 20th century, and an environmental disaster is looming, the Red Cross said. The Serbian Red Cross stocks of food and medicines are no longer sufficient, and the humanitarian situation is growing more serious by the hour since all international humanitarian organizations except the International Committee of the Red Cross have withdrawn from the country, the Red Cross said. The Serbian Red Cross urgently needs milk, baby food, biscuits, nappies, canned food, dry yeast, processed cheese, oil, sugar, salt, rice, beans, pasta, canned fruit, detergent, soap, toothpaste, shampoo, bed linen, blankets, water canisters, candles...
