Yugoslav officials - International community needs to step up struggle against a global evil
September 12, 2001

Belgrade, September 12, 2001 - Yugoslav officials said that yesterday's terrorist attacks in the United States should "alarm" world leaders into stepping up the struggle against terrorism, it is highlighted in a statement issued by the Yugoslav President's Cabinet.

"The tragic events in New York and Washington should alarm the international community into stepping up the struggle against this global evil no matter who the perpetrators are or what the motives of terrorist attacks might be," it was stated in a statement issued after last night's Yugoslav Supreme Defense Council's meeting in the Federation Palace.

The statement went on to say that "the FRY has warned against international and local terrorism as one of the greatest evils of today's world, not only because of the fact that Yugoslavia itself was the victim of terrorism, but because of our conviction that violence is no solution to political crisis."

Yugoslav officials have severely condemned this devastating terrorist attack and express their condolences for the many innocent victims, the statement concluded.
