September 11, 2001

PODGORICA, September 11 (Beta) - The Yugoslav Supreme Defense Council adopted measures to promote the security situation at state borders and cooperation with the Ministries of Internal Affairs of Serbia and Montenegro and with KFOR forces, stated Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica's Cabinet.

The council examined the situation with regard to securing state borders, in particular the border with Macedonia, Albania, and the administrative border with Kosovo, the statement says.

The third defense council session since the overthrow of Milosevic was attended this afternoon by Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica, Montenegrin and Serbian presidents Milo Djukanovic and Milan Milutinovic and Yugoslav Army chief-of-staff Nebojsa Pavkovic.

The council also considered the current political and security situation in the region as a whole.

Finally, participants discussed the possibility of Yugoslav forces joining the Partnership for Peace program. The decision will be postponed until relations between Serbia and Montenegro are resolved, the statement read.
