Two international credits for Railway Transport Enterprise Belgrade
September 10, 2001

Belgrade, September 9 (Beta) - "By the end of the year, the Railway Transport Enterprise Belgrade will receive €113 million in two international reconstruction credits", Serbian Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Marija Raseta-Vukosavljevic announced on Monday.

Raseta-Vukosavljevic said that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has granted Serbia a €57 million credit which will most likely be received in December, adding that a €56 million European Investment Bank credit due at the end of the year would be used for renovating railroad tracks and infrastructure.

"The EBRD credit will be used for renovation of electric powered locomotives and for procurement of railroad track maintenance equipment", Raseta-Vukosavljevic said.

According to Raseta-Vukosavljevic, the Serbian Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications is currently preparing a railroad law envisaging division of the railroad system into two sectors - infrastructure and transport. "The process will take at least two, maybe even three years", she added.

"The state will remain in charge of infrastructure since this is a question of strategic issues. However, we want the transport sector to operate according to market conditions", Raseta-Vukosavljevic said.
