Belgrade, September 3, 2001 - Ministry of Education and Sport stated that the 2001/2002 school year started regularly, without strikes.

It was also stated that legal regulations on the number of students in classes as well as 45-minute duration of classes have been accomplished. The Ministry stresses that even schools, which had been a symbol of such behaviour, did not reduce their classes to 30 minutes, and the Ministry thanks the unions for that.

Some schools, however, decided to reduce classes to 30 minutes. Statement of the Serbian Ministry of Education and Sport says: "Regarding the attitudes of unions, parents and the best interest of children, the attitude of the Ministry and great necessity of restoring the normal state, the Ministry will examine all the possibilities and legal measures and reduce salaries in such schools for 30% - the same amount they are depriving students of tuition."
