DSS imprudently prevented Judge Vucetic's return
September 01, 2001

Belgrade, September 1, 2001 (Beta) - Non-governmental organisation G17 Plus described as "astonishing imprudence" DSS support to the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) in preventing the return of Slobodan Vucetic to the position of Judge of the Constitutional Court of Serbia.

G17 says that through this decision, the work of Serbian Constitutional Court is stalled, since there is now no quorum.

DSS official Dusan Budisina's rationalizations for the decision "are offensive not only to our greatest expert on constitutional law, Slobodan Vucetic, but also to Serbia's citizens, who fought for a legal state on October 5," G17 reports.

G17 pointed out that "thanks to" DSS, those who were prosecuted for rigging the September 2000 elections have still to this day managed to retain their positions on Yugoslavia's Constitutional Court and in the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office.

- We would not be surprised if the people who support Arandjel Markicevic and Vukasin Jokanovic today, proposed Mirko Marjanovic or Nikola Sainovic tomorrow, as experts in the reconstruction of the Serbian government - G17 says.

The proposal that former Serbian Constitutional Court judge Slobodan Vucetic return to his previous position was turned down by the Board for the Judicial System of the Serbian Parliament.

After the Board finished their session, DSS official Dusan Budisina told the Beta news agency that his party abstained "for strictly legal reasons," while declining to specify those reasons.
