Belgrade, August 28 (Beta) - The Serbian government issued a statement on Tuesday, August 28, saying that religious instruction and alternative subjects would be introduced as "optional" due to differing interpretations of the Decree on Introducing Religious Instruction in Schools.

According to the government statement, students and their parents will be allowed to decide on whether to receive religious instruction, choose an alternative subject, or decline both options.
