Haekkerup satisfied with talks with Covic
August 27, 2001

Pristina, August 27 (Beta) - UNMIK chief Hans Haekkerup announced on Monday that his talks last week with the head of the state Coordinating Center for Kosovo, Nebojsa Covic, had been constructive, and reiterated the UNMIK position not to allow parallel institutions of power in the province.

- UNMIK is the sole instrument of power in Kosovo and it will not share power with anybody - Haekkerup said after the meeting of the Interim Administration Mission in Pristina.

He added that his talks with Covic represented an effort toward resolving common ethnic Albanian-Serb problems, and announced another meeting later this week. Haekkerup said he was seeking above all to resolve problems with the integration of the Serb minority in the Kosovo power structure and the problem of tracing missing persons.

President of the Democratic League of Kosovo Ibrahim Rugova told reporters after the meeting that he "greeted the efforts of Belgrade to convince Kosovo Serbs of the necessity to integrate into the common power structures, but will not allow Belgrade interfere in the affairs of the province."
