Djindjic - We need to recognize our development potentials

Krusevac, August 23, 2001 - A Serbian government delegation, headed by Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, opened its visit to the Rasina district by meeting the representatives of the local authorities and the region's businessmen in the Krusevac Municipal Assembly building on Thursday, August 23. Serbian Prime Minister stressed that the visit was aimed at drawing up a development action plan for the Rasina district.

- We shall set up regional teams, which will have the task of defining specific products that we could launch on the world market. We can receive fresh funds through investments, and if we know what we want, we can join the economy competition - Prime Minister Djindjic underlined.

According to him "only if we are aware of the potentials we possess, and the way how to overcome the problems, can we follow the path of development."

- It is necessary that the representatives of local authorities and experts make precise analyses on the goals of the development, name the responsible persons and schedule the deadlines. Only that way can we carry out the government's strategy - stressed Djindjic.

Tourism and health food - development strategy for Krusevac

According to President of Krusevac Municipal Assembly Sava Popovic the whole district is thinking over tourism and health food as new strategic determination of this region.

- If you give me precise analyses, which would confirm that your product would be competitive, we shall talk about investments in this these branches - Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic promised.

After the representatives of the local authorities gave data on the various economic problems they face in this region, Serbian Prime Minister said that the crucial question was "their readiness for reforms in Krusevac."

According to Djindjic, there is a chance, the world market is opening to our country, and it only depends on us to use that in the right manner.

- I guarantee that if you have people with good business plans I shall find investors. The only potential we have are the people, and they must know what they offer - Djindjic reiterated and asked for detailed analysis of the region and its potentials from the local authorities.

Serbian Prime Minister expressed hope that this was the last generation to discuss the repayments of debts. The Serbian government wants "to draw a line" and instead of rescheduling of debts and credit requirements, "we should make plans and invest in the country's future."

Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic was accompanied by Serbian Finance and Economics Minister Bozidar Djelic, Serbian Economy and Privatisation Minister Aleksandar Vlahovic, Serbian Minister of Education and Sport Gaso Knezevic, Serbian Minister of Urbanism and Construction Dragoslav Sumarac, as well as representatives of ministries of agriculture, waterpower engineering, forestry, traffic and telecommunications.
