Legal system compatible to European standards
August 08, 2001

Belgrade, August 8, 2001 - Serbian Ministry of Justice and Local self-government and Lawyers Association of Serbia will start the mutual long-term project by founding a Training centre for lawyers and prosecutors which would provide permanent education of our judicial organs and create a judiciary system compatible with the one in the European Union.

Serbian Ministry of Justice and Lawyers Association of Serbia expect that institutionalization and advanced training of prosecutors and judges at first, and lawyers afterwards, will provide harmonization of our legal system with European standards, protection of human rights, more quality and effective proceedings, which are the conditions for the rule of law and law-abiding state.

The Council of Europe, OSCE and Open Society Centre expressed great interest and offered help to this project. Similar European institutes with long-standing experience in this field will serve as a model for education of our judges, lawyers and prosecutors.
