Yugoslav delegation meets Powell

Washington, D.C. (Beta) - While talks with the Paris Club are drawing close, the Yugoslav delegation had acquainted the US with the state of Yugoslav economy and the plans and expectations of Belgrade authorities, says the statement from the Yugoslav embassy in Washington, D.C. issued on the occasion of the three-day visit of the Yugoslav delegation.

The US Secretary of State Colin Powell received on Thursday evening the Yugoslav delegation, composed of the Yugoslav Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus, the Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic and the Serbian Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic. The Yugoslav delegation also talked with Senator George Vojnovic, Congressman Jim Kolbe and the Deputy National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley, the Voice of America reports.

The case of the Yugoslav foreign debt is a special one and it requires special treatment, the Yugoslav embassy statement says. The Yugoslav delegation expects speedy normalization of trade relations with the USA and a substantial progress in the unfreezing of Yugoslav accounts in American banks.

On the agenda were likewise other political issues that were thoroughly discussed. Everything considered, the Yugoslav delegation is highly satisfied with the success of its trip and the reception by the American officials, the Yugoslav embassy concludes its statement.

The Yugoslav delegation met the representatives of the Institute of Peace on Thursday as well.
