Serbia to become regional IT centre

Belgrade, August 3 - The object of his visit to "Microsoft", as the Serb Prime Minister defines it, is to attempt to persuade Bill Gates to mark Serbia in his development chart as the Balkans IT centre.

"We are going to try to negotiate a place for us in a fund worth several dozen billion US dollars, set up by "Microsoft" to support IT development in education and health sectors," Djindjic explains adding that no concrete business deal signing has been foreseen for the occasion of his visit next Monday.

The aim is, Djindjic elaborates, to attract a potential investor ready to invest in this country. In that sense, the first step will be the opening of a "Microsoft" office in Serbia and the establishing of a training centre run by world experts who would instruct our personnel.

Asked whether "Microsoft" invasion of Serbia would only promote on-the-spot espionage, the Serb Prime Minister replied in a humorous tone:

"Microsoft is the leading software company and if the countries such as France, UK, Japan, harbour no such fears, I guess we would be going too far if we dreaded being spied upon. So huge a number of satellites are orbiting the earth that those troubled about being tracked should even not leave their flats."
