Japanese economists interested in RTB BOR
July 07, 2001

Bor, July 6 2001 (Beta) - The mining and metallurgical complex Bor (RTB BOR) was visited by a delegation of Japanese economists, who had talks with the managing board about the possibilities of technical cooperation.

The Japanese delegation was headed by the president of the Yugoslav-Japanese committee for economic cooperation, and the managing director of the mining and metallurgical company "Dowa Mining", Kenzo Harad.

As it was pointed out at the meeting, the visit of the Japanese delegation represented the first results of the donors' conference in Brussels, where readiness to help the economic revival of Yugoslavia after democratic changes was expressed.

The cooperation of RTB and the Japanese enterprises has lasted more than three decades. In RTB there are still oxygen and sulphuric acid factories that work on Japanese technology.

The managing board of RTB said that the mining and metallurgical complex was in a difficult position, since the production of copper has been reduced from 170,000 tons to only 40,000 tons per year. It was stressed that the revival of RTB would not be possible without financial support for the modernisation of metallurgical installations and aid to the Majdanpek mine.

The Japanese delegation also visited the smelter in Bor, the factory for polished and copper wire and for the flotation of copper mines.
