Raising funds for full reforms
June 27, 2001

Brussels, June 27 (Tanjug - agencies) - The US, EU members and other countries have been invited to attend the Donor's Conference in Brussels on Friday and pledge $1.25 billion to rebuild Yugoslavia's economy, World Bank official Rory O' Sullivan and EU official Gunnar Wiegand said on Wednesday.

"The conference will take place with or without the Americans", said the EU spokesman, pointing to positive assessments by the EU regarding the Yugoslav Government's Decree on cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.

O'Sullivan said he would call on donor countries to support the Yugoslav Government's reforms.

"The issue here is not only the raising of funds, but also full reforms of the Yugoslav economy", O'Sullivan underlined.

"Yugoslavia is faced with many serious problems in each field of the economy", the World Bank official warned, adding that the Yugoslav Government took a series of encouraging steps over the last couple of months.

O'Sullivan and Wiegand did not exclude the possibility of certain donors attempting to condition the donations by real political and economic reforms in Yugoslavia and full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.
