Vlassopoulos: We want to attract as many donors as possible June 27, 2001
In the interview for Deutsche Welle Radio, Vlassopoulos said that the aim of the conference taking place on Friday was the support of Yugoslav economy for this year and especially for the winter. The programmes, submitted to the Donors' Conference by the European Union, the World Bank and the Yugoslav Government, comprise practically all recognized critical areas such as electric power industry, health services, education, trade, said he. Answering the question whether any concrete financial aid had been promised to Yugoslavia, Vlassopoulos remarked that the Russian Federation and the World Bank had already established precise sums, and that the majority of European countries had proceeded likewise.
"The biggest part of the necessary sum has been provided by the European Union and the World Bank. We hope that other countries too will make their contribution so that Yugoslavia could find itself in a position to put an end to its troubles, "said the Greek Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe Panayotis Vlassopoulos.
