US welcomes Yugoslav Government's Decree
June 27, 2001

Washington, June 26 (Beta - AP) - The US welcomed Tuesday the latest move made by the Belgrade authorities regarding the cooperation with the Hague war crimes tribunal, describing it as "encouraging" for the decision on the US participation in the Donor's Conference scheduled for Friday.

State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said that the recommendations regarding the US stand had not been forwarded to the US Secretary of State Colin Powel, adding that " the positive steps taken by the Belgrade authorities would have a significant influence on the decision".

The US official announced the possibility of the US participation in the Donor's Conference even if former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic is not extradited to the tribunal in the meantime, Associated Press has learned.

"The extradition of Milosevic may be the precondition for receiving financial aid", the officials said.
