United States: The Decree Good For Participation at the Donor's Conference
June 27, 2001

Washington, June 26 (Beta-AP) - The United States greeted the latest actions of the authorities in Belgrade concerning cooperation with the Hague Tribunal for war criminals, saying that such action is "encouraging" while the decision about their participation at the Donor's Conference fixed for Friday is being made.

The spokesperson for the State Department, Richard Baucher, said that proposals about the American attitude had not yet been sent to the State Secretary Colin Powell, but he added that "the positive steps taken by the authorities in Belgrade would have great influence on that decision".

As Associated Press (AP) states, an American official announced in a private conversation the possibility of American participation at the Donor's Conference, even if former Yugoslav president is not being extradited to The Tribunal.

"Although financial help to Yugoslavia could depend on Milosevic's extradition", said the official.
