DOS leaders agree to pass a federal decree on extraditing the accused to the Hague Tribunal
June 22, 2001

Belgrade, June 22 - DOS leaders held a meeting late Thursday and agreed to pass a federal decree on extraditing the accused to the Hague Tribunal. The decree would be drafted by the Yugoslav Justice Ministry and would envisage the extradition of Yugoslav citizens to the Hague Tribunal, B92 radio has learnt.

Following unsuccessful talks with the Socialist People's Party of Montenegro (SNP) on passing an appropriate law at the federal level, DOS leaders met late Thursday to discuss new ways of cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.

The meeting lasted about three and a half hours. No official statements on the outcome of the meeting were released. Some 15 minutes after midnight, the participants in the meeting left the Palace of Federation passing by a dozen of TV crews and some 30 reporters. Asked whether they had reached an agreement, they replied: "The talks will resume on Friday. Everything will be all right".

Prior to the meeting, Serbian Justice Minister Vladan Batic announced that DOS leaders were also supposed to discuss the demand for the dismissal of the Yugoslav Army General Staff head Nebojsa Pavkovic. However, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Zarko Korac told the press after the meeting that General Pavkovic had not been relieved of his post. DOS leaders will resume the talks on the ways of cooperation with the Hague Tribunal on Friday.
