Belgrade, April 19 (Tanjug) - Serbian Culture Minister Branislav Lecic opened Thursday evening " Days of Viennese culture in Belgrade", which started by the opening of the Austrian Library in one of the several buildings belonging to the Medical School of the University of Belgrade in Deligradska Street.

During the festivity, Vienna and Austrian culture will be presented in a series of cultural events by May 5.

" After great efforts of Serbian people to enter the field of peace and democracy we now have an opportunity to participate in a new age when Serbia builds brick by brick its democratic edifice", Lecic said.

" Culture is nothing else but exchange and contact with other peoples and nations. We have been imprisoned for too long and therefore I, as Culture Minister, don' t want that claustrophobia time to happen to my people ever again ," he said.

Secretary General of the Austrian Foreign Ministry Albert Rohan said that October 5 of the last year was good day for Serbia and Europe, because on that day Serbian people put an end to Milosevic's rule peacefully.

For the occasion of " Days of Viennese culture in Belgrade", which is a joint initiative of the two capitals, guests brought as a present 1,500 books and furnished the information center and library occupying the premises of the Medical School of the University of Belgrade.
