The "Washington Post": Ethnic Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija violated the trust of the USA
March 23, 2001

New York, March 23 (Tanjug) -More and more disassociation of the West from ethnic Albanian politics leaders in Kosovo has been caused by massive participation of members of so-called Liberation Army of Kosovo in guerilla actions in Macedonia, the "Washington Post" writes today.

The paper underlines that the same people who are now fighting against Macedonian security forces, fought in 1998 and 1999 against Yugoslav units and that the NATO, when it came to Kosovo two years ago, did not disarmed them, as it was expected.

Instead of disarming, they hid arms, which is now being used for guerrilla actions in Macedonia, the paper, close to the American government, concludes.

The "Washington Post" writes that Christopher Dell, chief of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Kosovo, expressed his frustrations with this event in unusually strong terms in an editorial, which he wrote, for local paper in Albanian language "Koha Ditore".

"By failing to halt extremists, Kosovo Albanians committed violation of our trust", Dell wrote.

According to the "Washington Post", chief of the U.S. diplomatic mission ended his report with the question: "Is giving up the hopes of self-governance forever really the price you want to pay to protect thieves and murders?"

The question was obviously referred to ethnic Albanian population, but leaders also, who, refusing to disassociate themselves from the terrorists in Macedonia, during yesterday's talks with representatives of the European Union in Pristina, according to him, endangered their strivings for independence.
