Yugoslavian High Jumper Fails Test March 07, 2001
Topic has been asked by track and field's ruling body to supply a list of all medications he used recently that could have led to the positive drug test, the Yugoslavian track federation said Wednesday. IAAF spokesman Giorgio Reineri could not be reached immediately for comment. Topic tested positive after a Feb. 2 meet in Wuppertal, Germany, where he jumped 7-foot-7. The Yugoslavian federation said Topic's urine sample showed the presence of norandrosterone in concentrations slightly higher than allowed. The substance could indicate the steroid nandrolone. Topic's coach, Mihajlo Svraka, said the high jumper had not been taking illegal substances. "Topic is experienced. After 15 years in track and field, such mistakes can't happen to him," the coach said. "If he'd been taking something, he wouldn't have competed."
