Belgrade, December 26 (Tanjug) - Yugoslav volleyball player Vladimir Grbic was pronounced Yugoslav athlete of the year 2000 late Monday at the traditional 44th ceremony of the Sport Yugoslav Sport Daily.

Grbic won 68 points from the jury, which is composed of former winners of the Golden Badge for athlete of the year.

Jasna Sekaric, a markswoman, was voted second, and Aleksandar Sostar, a waterpolo player, the third most successful athlete of the year.

Grbic is a member of the Yugoslav volleyball team, which won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Sydney.

He was recently voted the best volleyball player in Europe this year, in a Confederation of European Volleyball (CEV) poll.

With the clubs: Twice the champion of Yugoslavia and the third in the European Champion's Cup with Vojvodina, CEV Cup with Padova, Italian Cup, Cup of Cup winners, Super Cup and CEV Cup with Alpitour.

With the national team: Two bronze and one silver medal at the European Championships, the silver one at the World Championship, the bronze at the World Cup, one golden and one bronze at the Olympics, the best athlete of Yugoslavia for the year 1996, according to the Yugoslav Olympic Committee.
