Albania will be forced to support autonomy of Kosovo and Metohija December 05, 2000
Batakovic, in his interview to the BBC, stated precisely that international community could limit help to Albania so that it cooperate on solving political crisis in the region. Emphasizing the necessity in order to take action, first bigger, then regional and after that European against mafia - "mutual evil which had spread over Kosovo and northern Albania", Batakovic evaluated that it "absolutely fits into all documents which, when it is about Balkan, European Union accepted. Commenting the leader of Kosovo Albanians Ibrahim Rugova's role and his refusal to talk with Belgrade, Batakovic evaluated that Rugova's status has been made difficult with Milosevic's fall and it showed at conference in Athens under the name "Ethnic Albanians as minority and majority in Balkans", which, at the time when it was scheduled, intended to "promote ethnic Albanian interests in Balkans and, in the final instance, show that it is impossible for ethnic Albanians in Kosovo to live with the rest of Serbia and Yugoslavia". With Milosevic's fall "the situation has changed" and Rugova is now in "unpleasant situation", since "he has support of electoral body, but has not effective power, which former KLA is conducting, terrorizing the territory". Batakovic evaluated Rugova's statement that establishing dialog with Belgrade is "too soon" as "part of continued policy of Kosovo Albanians which he symbolizes and that is that they do not accept any kind of agreement in principle with Serbia". Batakovic stated that "negotiations are the only way to overcome that dead end and pointed out that "among other currents of moderate Albanians are those who are ready to talk about current problems".
Answering the question if he thinks that Yugoslavia will now manage to internationalize its case, as Kosovo Albanians had done it before, Batakovic pointed out that he thinks that it is good that world had supported Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica, because it is "one of ways to solve big political questions on regional base.
