Submission of the electoral lists by December 7th
November 09, 2000

Belgrade, November 9th - Political parties and coalitions in Serbia that plan to enter republic parliamentarian elections scheduled for December 23rd, have only a month left to submit electoral lists with the names of deputy candidates.

According to the electoral law, the lists should be delivered to the Republic Electoral Commission 15 days, at the latest, before the elections, i.e. until December 7th.

In order that the electoral list becomes valid and determined, at least 10.000 voters should sign it. In the electoral law, adopted on October 10th this year, this represents a novelty regarding the former regulation. One more novelty is that Serbia represents one electoral unit.

According to the law which was applied in the previous parliamentarian elections, Serbia was divided into electoral units, and the electoral list became determined when at least one thousand voters with place of residence in that unit supported it with their signatures.

This time, it is necessary that parties gather at least 10.000 signatures and to notarize them in the district court. In order that this notarization of signatures does not complicate the electoral process, Ministry of Justice will, as Tanjug found out, organize notarization in such a way that representatives of district courts will do that work in the seats of the parties which submitted the lists.

Parties will have to pay for this notarization. The book of regulations for the notarization of signatures says that the submitter of the electoral list should pay 20 dinars to notarize every signature. This means that parties will have to pay at least 200.000. This money will go to the Republic's budget.
