Belgrade, October 25, 2000 (Tanjug) - The Cabinet of Serbian president has stated today that president Milan Milutinovic dissolved Serbian parliament "according to the article 89 paragraph 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, and on argued suggestion of the Government".

According to the Constitution of Serbia, the elections "for new National Parliament of Serbia should be held within 60 days, i.e. on December 23, this year".

The statement says that these elections "are the most democratic way in order to solve all political and other problems in normal, civilized way, through political methods, and in the frame of the Constitution and Law".

Serbian Parliament Speaker Dragan Tomic, who has called, today, Serbian parliamentary elections for December 23, stated in his decision about calling elections that "deadlines for carrying out electoral procedure begins on October 26, 2000".

Electoral bodies will conduct the elections in Serbia, "in accordance with the regulations of the Law on election of National Parliament deputies", it is said in Serbian Parliament's Press Service.

It is added that the decision about calling elections takes effect on the day of its publishing in the "Official Herald of the Republic of Serbia.
