Reawaken colonialism August 14, 2000
Now it is clear who came to the southern Serbian province and for what reason - Americans, who intend to stay there for long, in order to build their base, Germans in order to create a terrain for the return of hundreds of thousands of Albanians who increasingly bother them, English and French in order to profit as much as possible together with the Americans, even by committing robberies which is the case with the occupation of the lead-smelting plant in Zvecan. All others play some peacekeeping forces. According to numerous analysts, even the ones from the West, colonialism is reawakening in Kosovo and Metohija in its worst form. It is a disgrace that it is awakening under the U.N. flag, which is an unprecedented event in recent history of the world. Judging by the first reactions from the world media, not many have been surprised by today's occupation of the lead-smelting plant in Zvecan. The terrain for such an action by UNMIK and KFOR was being prepared long ago and finally, the justification was found in - ecology. KFOR and UNMIK are very "concerned" about the health of the residents of Kosovo and Metohija, since the smelter allegedly emits toxic gases. However, they were not worried about the ethnic cleansing and expulsion of some 350,000 Serbs and other non-Albanian population from Kosovo and Metohija. On the contrary, they did all they could to make it possible for ethnic Albanian terrorists to do all the things they have undisturbedly been doing since the deployment of KFOR and UNMIK in Kosovo and Metohija. Ecology is a child's tale which no reasonable man believes in. The issue here is something else. It is obvious that chief of UNMIK Bernard Kouchner has the intention to destroy Trepca mining complex which has become the symbol of Serbian resistance to occupation, as it was the symbol of resistance to Nazi occupation in World war II - the first Partisan unit in Kosovo and Metohija had been founded by Trepca workers. KFOR and UNMIK have begun the occupation of Trepca mining complex from the very first day of their deployment in Kosovo and Metohija. With the use of force they seized 16 most important producing capacities of Trepca. Those capacities are not in operation today, some have been robbed, some burned down, while fire has been set to all mines. The only Trepca's capacity in operation was the one in Zvecan. It was one of the rare plants in which Serb workers have been employed. It was precisely this that bothered KFOR and UNMIK.
This is not all. KFOR troops today occupied Radio S which has been broadcasting in Serbian from Zvecan. This way they denied the Serbs the possibility of getting information they were interested in. By occupying lead-smelting plant and Radio S, KFOR and UNMIK have assaulted the sacred thing of the western democratic society - private ownership, bearing in mind that Trepca mining complex is a joint-stock company and free media. It is clear that there is no sacred thing left for the western powers in this reawaken colonialism.
